East Side Shooting Victim Has Died

One person has died following a shooting in a parking lot on Madison's East Side early Thursday.

It happened just after midnight Thursday on the 1700 block of Fordem Avenue, according to an incident report from Madison police.

Officials said early indications suggest the victims were targeted, and this was not a random act of violence.

Detectives spent Thursday asking neighbors if they saw or heard anything overnight.

"We're working on this as an attempted double homicide. But again, one of these individuals does have life-threatening injuries, so if he passes, we have a full-fledged homicide case," said Joel DeSpain, spokesman for the Madison Police Department.

Police said both victims in the shooting are from the Chicago area.

Police said they are investigating to see if the shooting is gang-related.

Anyone with information is asked to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
