A Madison police officer was on routine patrol along East Washington Avenue, near Stoughton Road, early Wednesday morning when she came upon a car on top of a snow bank.
The driver told the officer she was fine and had just gotten off work, but after further discussion, the officer determined the driver, Melody Stumpf, 50, had been drinking, police said.
The officer said she asked Stumpf what time she had finished her job and she said at 10:30 p.m. When the officer asked Stumpf if she knew what time it was, she answered about 10:30 p.m.
Stumpf seemed surprised when the officer informed her it was actually about 3 a.m., police said. The driver was arrested for fourth offense drunken driving, according to police.
