Police hold meeting on sex offender's move to Milwaukee St. | Crime
Madison police said a registered sex offender is scheduled to move to an east side neighborhood.
A community meeting is scheduled Wednesday at 6 p.m. for residents to learn more information about Michael Nelson's convictions for sexual assaults in 1989 and 2002. The meeting will also include details about the police department's plan and how to protect children and oneself from sex offenders.
According to police, 45-year-old Nelson was convicted of second-degree sexual assault 24 years ago and again 11 years ago for first-degree sexual assault of a child and repeated acts of sexual assault of a child. Nelson's victims were juvenile girls known to him, officials said.
Nelson is scheduled to move to an apartment on the 3500 block of Milwaukee Street, police said.
The 1.5-hour meeting will take place at the East Police District Station, 809 S. Thompson Dr., in the community room.
Authorities said there are about 700 registered sex offenders living in Dane County. More than half of those people are registered to addresses within the city limits of Madison.
