Officers responded to a four-car crash on South Stoughton Road on Friday afternoon that led to the arrest of a 62-year-old man on a charge of fifth offense drunken driving, according to the Madison Police Department.
Police said Jimmie Flowers said his brakes went out causing him to rear-end a car stopped in front of him on the 1700 block of South Stoughton Road at about 5:30 p.m.
The collision caused a chain reaction as two additional stopped vehicles were impacted, police said.
The investigating officer tested Flowers' brakes and said they were functional.
Flowers faces charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, following too closely, operating after revocation and no insurance, police said.
