Police were called to Dawes Crane Rental on Wednesday morning after the owners got to work and found damage to the property and a large amount of copper wire stolen.

Madison police said the people responsible entered through a secured fence. The owners said it would cost about $30,000 to replace the wire that was stolen.

Also, several cranes that were on the property had racial epitaphs painted in yellow on them, police said.

Both the theft and damage would have occurred between Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and Wednesday at 7 a.m.

Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to contact the Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
