Olbrich Gardens To Kick Off Load-Your-Own Mulch Sale Early | Home & Garden
The Load-Your-Own Leaf Mulch Sale at Olbrich Botanical Gardens started early this year on April 4, instead of April 14 as scheduled.
The nice spring weather has made gardeners anxious to get mulching, so here’s your chance to get a jump on the season.
Buy the same leaf mulch used in Madison’s award-winning Olbrich Botanical Gardens for your home garden. Leaf mulch is a natural product that reduces weeds, conserves water and fertilizes the soil. It’s beneficial for annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees and in vegetable gardens, officials said.
Olbrich’s Load-Your-Own Bagged Mulch Sale starts April 4, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily (excluding April 12 to 14), while supplies last. Just pay in the gift shop, then drive around back to load the bags into your car. Bring a friend to help load since bags can weigh up to 45 pounds.
If it’s full service you want, Olbrich has reserved Thursday, April 12 from 2 to 5 p.m. as an early day for Olbrich members to buy mulch; with public sales April 13 from 2 to 5 p.m. and April 14 from 9 a.m. – noon. Just drive up and volunteers will load the bags right into your car for you. Bulk scoops of mulch will also be available these days.
Each bag covers approximately 35 feet at 2 to 3 inches and each bulk scoop is equivalent to approximately 8 to 10 bags of mulch. Bags are $6.50 each plus tax; bulk scoops are $40 each plus tax. Mulch your garden at your own pace by taking advantage of the many sale days this year!
