About 75 kids from families in need of financial help were chosen to take park in the 11th annual Shop With a Cop event at the east side Target Sunday morning.
The event includes officers from seven different Dane County law enforcement agencies.
The Dane County Sheriff's Office, the Madison Police Department, the University of Wisconsin Police Department, the Town of Madison Police Department, Monona Police Department, Middleton Police Department and Oregon Police Department are all took part in the event.
"Each department takes kids from their own community," Monona Police Officer Jim Reiner said. "So, I've brought four kids from the city of Monona and the Monona Grove School District and partnered them up with Monona police officers."
Reiner said each department handles a part of the organization of the event, from coordinating media coverage to bringing in Badgers football players, Bucky Badger and Santa and Mrs. Claus.
"It shows a very positive image," Reiner said. "Every officer that has shopped with a kid has always wanted to come back in the following years."
Each child received $150 to spend. The money was donated by businesses and individuals.
"We just ask that the kids have a shopping list in hand before they arrive," Reiner said.
The kids not only got to pick out gifts for their family members, but they also got to pick out something for themselves.
