A new Madison Police Department training facility opened on the city's southeast side on Tuesday.
The facility, located at 5702 Femrite Drive, was officially opened with the help of Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen and Madison Police Chief Noble Wray, who took turns firing ceremonial first shots down the facility's new range.
"You cannot continuously improve in this profession, unless you train and you keep training as a premium," Wray said.
Wray said the facility will not only help Madison residents.
"We will also be able to open this up to over 1,500 law enforcement professionals in Dane County," Wray said.
The city purchased the site of an old east side printing facility. The cost of the range was $2.8 million and the costs were included in the 2011 Capitol Budget, Wray said.
